The Fun Theory

The thermo chromic hand dryer is a simple and fun way to indirectly increase participation in hand washing via adding an element of fun at the secondary stage – hand drying. Adding thermochromic paint to the metal parts, most notably the directional nozzle, will induce a visible and spectacular colour change as hot air comes into contact with the metal upon a user activating the hand dryer. The engaging effect is similar to that produced by thermocolour t-shirts and thermochromic mugs. With users knowing they can be stimulated at the point of drying their hands, they will have greater willingness to wash their hands in expectation. Potentially multiple designs could be created that react at different heat ranges thus increasing the versatility and customization of this product. Submitted by Gavin Conway.
