The territory of a crossing

2021-11-19 14:18 - 0 Comments

Following the philosophy of the fun theory, I propose to remake contemporary crossings in such a way that everybody would like to use them for crossing the road. This crossing, however, can be replaced by another crossing. Imagine you are in the Amazon rainforest and in front of you is an abyss with a wild river at the bottom. One way to get to the other side is to cross a liana bridge just in front of you. You have no other way because there are crocodiles down there. Who of us is not an adventurer? Stub out the light

2021-11-19 14:06 - 0 Comments

Problem tackled: reducing the cigarette litter in front of public places. Solution: inspired from a game played with 3 paper cups and a ball in which the dealer hides the ball under one of the cup and then swaps the cups, and the player has to guess where the ball is. The device is an ashtray with 3 holes and 3 diodes. The diodes light on alternatively along random sequences of 2 or 3 seconds. By the end of the sequence the player has to stub out his cigarette in the hole whose diode lighted on last. Heat sensors in the three holes allow to determine whether the player wins.

Used Batteries Pinball

2021-11-19 14:06 - 0 Comments

Problem tackled: Collecting batteries to recycle them.
Solution: The device, a used-batteries collector, takes advantage of the form factor of a pinball to engage people into playing. Batteries replace metal balls. Pulling on and releasing the lever propulse the battery onto the playfield. Multiple boards could be adapted. The hole to target is indicated to the player through a visual cue. The goal is to reach the target by applying the appropriate force on the lever.

Have you ever notice that: when people open the tap, do they use the water or just do something like brush their teeth or stylish their hair but open the tap without conscious. They just unconsiously waste the water resource. We need something can remind them: you should be awareness of saving the water. We would like to design a tap built in a “bomb”. When people open the tap, they must wash their hands and turn off it within 7 seconds. Otherwise, the led display shall show explosion and sound serious warning.

Problem tackled: Reducing the cigarette litter in front of public places.
Solution: Make it fun to stub out a cigarette in an ashtray. On the tray is mounted a video screen where some funny aliens are floating around. The screen is equipped with some kind of heat sensing. The goal is to kill aliens by stubbing out cigarettes on them, but aliens flee when they feel some heat, enriching the game with a feedback loop. Funny sounds or animations can be added depending on whether the alien was hit, missed or burned.

Solution: Make it fun to stub out a cigarette in an ashtray. On the tray is mounted a video screen equiped with some kind of heat sensing. The cigarette butt is used on the screen as a paint brush. The color of the "trait" depends on the heat sensed. The color degrades in time creating a dynamic painting that evolves continuously.

Problem tackled : reduce the number of single-use bags that are distributed or sold in supermarkets.
Solution:grant the right to people bringing along reusable bags to choose the music played in the supermarket. People are given tags (like barcodes) to stick on their bags. When entering the supermarket, they scan the tag and choose a song to play in the supermarket.

Gold Mine

GOLD MINE is a proposal to propagate the use of dry toilets and replace the current Water Closets (WC) in an intriguing kind of way. For The Fun Theory we call the wooden toilet houses GOLD MINE and place them on several public and semi-public places around town. The idea is to engage not only volunteers in building and maintain them but also to connect different parts of the community through the GOLD MINES. What people produce in the GOLD MINES is later utilized to enrich the soil of the community while leaving glittering traces outside of the dry toilets.

Alarm Crosswalk

2021-11-19 13:22 - 0 Comments

The idea is to avoid people crossing the walks on red lights. Too many people cross the crosswalks on redlights when there are not cars. My idea consist on installing a sensor on the floor on each site of crosswalk that will detect when people put a foot on the crosswalk and it is red light. If someone crosses the street, a speaker will make a sound and a light on the opposite site of the crosswalk will flash the pedestrian so he/she will realize that is not allowed to cross on red light.

Instead of getting up by a blasting and annoying sound, customized jokes (diverse) should hit the first note. After an increasingly drifting laugh the user should turn off the "alarm" by hula hooping it with whichever part of her/his body she/he wants to exercise. Thus, the product won't only promote a funner but healthier morning wake up.

The Fundraiser Piggy Bank

2021-11-19 12:04 - 0 Comments

The idea is to ask artists to design or decorate a big PIGGY BANK just like the art cows in Chicago streets These piggy banks are just tall enough so that a 9 year old child can reach the slot at the top of the piggy bank to put in the money (either paper or coins). As soon as the hand with the money passes the light sensor inside the slot near the opening - a sound recording is activated and the theme song - "That's all folks." - of Porky Pig is played. but, instead "Thank you folks." is played.

Making Exercise Fun: Working Out vs Parkour

2021-11-19 11:35 - 0 Comments

Although most of us like to be physically active, most of us do not consistently exercise. Maybe that's because we don't enjoy exercising as much as other less physically demanding activities such as watching TV. Parkour is a training method founded by David Belle. It can be practiced anywhere – from urban settings, to playgrounds, to nature, and anywhere with obstacles man made or natural.

The Elder SHAKE

2021-11-19 11:24 - 0 Comments

In many countries people enters the bus form its front door, making it easier for the driver to identify if there's an elder person getting in. People don't always give away their seats to an elder. The idea here is that when the driver sees an elder he will activate the ELDER SHAKE! button, making all the seats to shake a little bit to let people know they should give away their seat(s) to an elder person.

The Friendly Dog Poo Recycle bin has a funny and friendly design, almost as in the picture attached. Speakers will be installed, connected to a sensor. Every time it detects movement near it, it will play different messages, like "I eat dog poo!", "I am hungry, please feed me!'. Another sensor will be installed in the tray, detecting when a person will throw something in it - then it will play messages like "Thank you so much!", "Mmmm, Yummy!" , "You just made my day better!", and it will automatically give a bone biscuit for the dog. It will also be equipped with free bags.

Footbridges are an incredible solution for pedestrians who need to cross one ore more busy streets. However, most of the time people are too lazy to go up a flight of stairs to get to the top of the bridge and cross safely to the other side, exposing their lives to the danger of being run over by a car or causing a major car accident. The solution: Make it fun!

The Interactive Ashtray Stand tries to make the process of stumping the cigarette fun. Basically it has 2 major parts: a "stumping part", which is a resistant material to stump on (metal for example), but also a touchpad to control the screen, the second major part of the IAS. During stumping a program is actually used via the touchpad, which can be a drawing program like Paint, or a quiz, or a poll etc.

Recycled Vending Machine

In some countries people don't see an immediate benefit from recycling. Here I present to you the new Soda Recycling-Vending Machine that will allow everybody to purchase a new icy soda by paying with their old cans! How it works? Once the machine has confirmed that is in fact a soda can (and no plastic or glass bottles for example) and the consumer has selected the drink, the old can goes to the inner container, the mechanism activates and the buyer gets a nice icy and refreshing soda!

Many people like to walk in the park and eat without washing their hands. This is clearly a hygienic issue. The solution: Place hand washing labyrinths in the parks. A person must find his/her way through the labyrinth to reach the different stages of hand washing like soaping, washing and drying.
