Step-sequencer car park

Many people prefers to get downtown by car and traffic raises the level of pollution.

How to convince people to park their car outside the urban belt and use the public transportation system to get downtown? And, focusing on the car park lot, is it possible to make the car parking more fun?

What about using cars instead pressing step sequencer buttons to create an high-scale step-sequencer with dynamic light and musical effects? This would bring drivers to say: "OK, there's a free lot there, let's park my car onto and see what happens."

Most airports provide an automatic walkway for people to either rest as they head towards their gate or get there a bit quicker when walking. Unfortunately, these too require the use of much electricity by keeping them running all day, every day. As someone who is interested in other languages myself, I believe that there are many people out there who are as well and would take the no-walkway route to hear some phrases in different languages.

If paper recycling can be made more fun, it would probably make more people acknowledge the importance of paper and paper products recycling. At the same time, if The Fun Theory would be combined with The Wining Something Theory, probably even more people would take a steep in this direction. This is all this project is about. Making people understand how much every sheet of paper means, making people recycle it, in a more pleasant way and also giving something back to them or their community.

Detect Dirty Hands

How can we make people wash their hands after using public toilets? A new doorknob could be the solution for this problem: After using the toilet, you have to touch the doorknob in order to unlock and open the door. So a doorknob with a stamp on its backside could put some colour or a funny message on your hand. The ink can easily be washed off with some water and soap - but of course, it will remain for a while if you do not wash your hands. So everybody can see that your hands are still dirty.

Have it ever occurred to you, while opening an automatic door by pushing a button, that you are very lazy? Everyday this lazy behavior ends up in thousands of people pushing buttons to open electric doors. Instead we made it funny to open these doors manually. When pushing the door manually, and saving energy, you get a crowd cheering from the loudspeaker installed on top of the door. Afterwards, while leaving the door, you'll feel aroused since the crowd has cheered you up. Perhaps you got some exercise as well. Submitted by Joakim & Tomas.

People nowadays tend to be impressed or attracted by something new or unique. The refuse bin was design in an upside down way to attract the crowd (What is your first reaction or impression when you see an inverted refuse bin hanging on the wall?) Throwing aluminum cans can be fun, the upside down way, where your cans will be suck upwards (a fun interaction between human and refuse bin). Funny sentences and phrases displayed on LCD screens after each throwing action, using several weird quotes create some unexpected fun while throwing your cans (i.e.

Poopmaster is intended to give dog owners an incentive to gather the dog poo and throw it away. The idea is that since some dog owners apparently do not care much for scooping up the poop and it often ends up under the sole of peoples shoes, to add something that encourages dog owners to do the right thing. Now they can scoop it up, go to the "recycling machine" and drop off the bag of poo. The machine then weighs the poo, and dependent on the weight the owner is rewarded with some cash they can give for charity to animal shelters.

This group of litter bins move and dance throughtout the space, talking to people inviting them to dispose of their litter. This group of bins can easily assemble themselves together by the cleaning personnel to be emptied at the end of each day. These bins encourage people to use the bins and promote a higher level of public interaction as well as providing entertainment and a element of quirky fun.

Batteries are everywhere but after they are used we often forget to return them where we should. A solution is to make returning batteries more fun. Battery games can be any kind of games you find in game halls, but instead of wasting your money you can use your used batteries as coins. You get your fun and the batteries get returned. Battery games can also work as the well known games we all know from our childhood, instead of a ball you play with a battery. Battery games are placed on public places, game halls, etc. where the batteries can easily be collected. Battery fun!

Currently most sustainabile responses are focused on land where we can monitor the proposed changes, while the water which covers 70% of our Earth’s surface tends to be neglected. Since the phytoplankton growing within the oceans provides 50% of Earth’s photosynthesis, ocean vitality is paramount for all life. Already we have lost 30% and 14% of phytoplankton in the North Pacific and North Atlantic Oceans respectively since the 80s. Specifically, we must counteract the damaging effects of excess carbon dioxide and acidification from our polluting habits.

People usually don’t have the motivation to produce energy through itself. Therefore we can use senseless waiting time to produce electricity through the vibration on the interactive energy floor. Below grade, the produced energy is saved and transformed. So, for example, the won energy could be used for the street lighting. Submitted by Maria Siebert.

We understood that the concept of fun theory has been created to change trough fun wrong behaviours of the citizens. Since there, we tried to find “wrong behaviours” around us. In fact in Lisbon, our city, you will find two places very dirty: Bairro alto and Santos. They are party places; you can find there plenty of bars and a lot of people, mostly on weekends. Also in those places you don’t find a lot of garbage, that’s why the floor is full of glasses, empty bottles and smoked cigarettes. Nowadays no one does the effort to reach garbage. We decided to change that precise behaviour.

Crossing the road solely on pedestrian crossing? Not crossing with the red light? Unfortunately these rules are not always followed! Let's play the pedestrian while waiting for the green light! It's a game of ability and precision. Pedestrian should take a coloured gun located at the base of the traffic light and try to fire the red light on the opposite side of the road. Pedestrian compete with each others and could contribute to turn the green light faster when shooting well. The redlight turns from red ,orange ,amber and finally to green.

This is my solution for the littering problem. It's a recycling game machine that will educate the youth (or the adults) by teaching them that recycling is fun! This machine is a portable big hockey table that has a mechanism to transform cans into pucks and also a car jack to lift the one side of the floor in order to unload the cans when the container is full. The game can be played with two players. Each player holds a rounder and tries to score by hitting the puck.

The problem is that people don’t recycle enough. And it really affects the world. The solution would be that their would be a recycle bin with a basket with a net, like if it was basketball. Then you would throw the bottles, cans, or any recycling material in the recycling basket. Then it will make a winning sound. How it will change the behavior? This way people will like to recycle in a fun way. And more people will recycle. And they will be helping our environment at the same time. Submitted by Esmeralda Gutierrez.

This happens to many people day in day out. You take the dog for a quick walk, and then the inevitable happens. The dog needs a poo. You have to bend down near all the smells, and pick it up with a glove etc. But knowone wants to touch it, its revolting and there is easier ways. I have come up with an idea that allows you to NOT bend down near the smells to pick it up. It also allows you to NOT to physically touch it. But what it does allow you to do is have FUN, yes thats right, have FUN.

Every time we go to a recycling point we will be given a fact about ecology, or what is happening to the earth and solutions that could be done.
Recycling points must to be part of our daily life. We sometimes don´t know anything about the importance of recycle, so the bin could help us to know more.
Funny that a bin can speak to us, and educational for everyone. Submitted by Veronica M. Guerrero
